Common ways to monetize your blog

I get a lot of questions about what's the best way to monetize a blog and the answer is quite simple.

Most bloggers use Adsense to monetize their blogs, which can be even very profitable if you pick the right niche and if you can get a lot of traffic to your site. Another way is to sell backlinks and ads once your blog website is established and gets a reasonable amount of targeted traffic.

One other, not so popular for blogs, is amazon ads and widgets. One thing is key to be able to get something from your blog and that's lots of traffic, which can take some time to achieve.

True, but with adsense you need to be careful. Google has a long list of do's and don'ts and if you even thik about violating one, they come down on you quite badly. I have seen many members of other forums complaining because they have lost their adsense account. Maybe a good idea would be to set up an adsense thread with a few do's don'ts and tips on preventing a person to lose their account.

The best and first is adsense at all. With adsense you can monetize "every" blog. It doesnt matter what topics you have, you can mix different topics in one blog and you can earn with adsense yet.

Affiliate, clickbank and Amazon you have to specialize your blog to a target topic. Yes for adsense this is very good too, because you will get a higher payout.

I made blogs with a mix of adsense, amazon and clickbank products. But the best to monetize a blog is one way for earnings.

I've at one point tried out all the methods that you have described on my one blog.

These days, it's all about adsense and i just write about products and insert an affiliate link. I don't always on every blog post promote a product because i don't want my visitors to think i'm always pitching a product to them. Also, i allow guest blog posts on my blog so using adsense on my blog is my favorite money making method.

Also, if you have a self hosted wordpress blog then i'd suggest using OIO Publisher to sell ads on your blog. They have a few different ways to make money off this plugin. Of course if your traffic is really low then no one will even bother to purchase any advertising spots.

The key thing to making money with your blog is traffic and lot's of it. Don't forget that people get ad blindness.

Google made the above the fold change not to long ago. This has hurt a lot of blog owners revenue because some of them stick so many banners and ads above there fold that it just makes the blog look spammy. Visitors want to read content and don't want to have to work hard to find it below a bunch of banner ad's.

Good placement is another key factor in making money from adsense. I'm still testing out different locations for the next few months on my blog. What works for one blog owner may not work for another blog owner.
