    How much SEO efforts...

Flipping sites can be very lucrative and I've tried, but for me it takes too much time. I have my focus on my core business. However, I'm wondering how much effort successful site flippers are putting into SEO activities for example for niche sites with adsense and the like.

I've heard some are selling like 10 sites per month and make a good living from it, so I'm wondering what it takes to make this a lucrative way to make an income.

    Re: How much SEO efforts...

I just have a very short story to tell about when i sold my vBulletin forum back in early 2007.

I created the forum 1 year before that with a custom theme and VBSEO installed. Built up the rankings very good for the keywords i was targeting and ranked on page 1 for some of them. Things went bad in the economy and a family member of mine lost her job. I was also getting tired of being an admin on my forum so i just sold it for a profit because my rankings was so high.

The buyer i think bought the forum because it was ranking on page 1 for almost all the keywords i was targeting. Keep in mind back in 2007 things was different in Google before they started making a ton of changes.

If i was to buy a website or a forum right now, i don't want one that has a poor ranking, i want to buy a site that's ranking very high for hard keywords. It would be easy for me to make my money back with that site with a ton of quality targeted traffic. Don't matter about the asking price, if I see potential that it can make money right away, i'll pay the asking price. lol

Some people buy startup websites that do have potential but need some good link building done. They do the link building for a few weeks and once the rankings start to get better, they turn around and sell the website for more then they paid for it. Also if that owner let's say added more security protection to the site, put up a new theme, he could ask more money for the site. It's like in real estate i think, people buy fixer upper house's, make some upgrades and then sell it for a profit.

They do the same thing with businesses as well. They buy struggling ones and then fix em up and then sell them again for a profit. I knew it would take spark on the net in some form as well. It can be lucrative, but its a lot of hard work if the site you buy does not perform as it should, and you need to get traffic coming in, and backlinks etc. I would also say go for the ones that have a high rank for competitive keywords, but with some, the competition is just too high to get a page one rank and then the decision becomes a bit of a toss up. (I think - I'm not a website flipper)

    Re: How much SEO efforts...

Those who are flipping websites these days focus mostly on niche sites, for which there are still many incompetative keywords to rank easy for. Even if a keyword gets only 1,000 searches or less a month can be very lucrative. Only when a website gets lots of visitors it can be sold for nice money, but those "new" niche sites mostly go for a few hundred bucks really.

Some are really quick and create one of these sites every few days. Doing this full time can be very profitable, but I'm done with SEO and keyword research. I wouldn't put the effort into it anymore...
