Marketing campaigns - How well do you plan beforehand?

It's an interesting question. How much planning do you put into your marketing campaign, and do you end up doing more or less than you originally planned?

With the New Year upon us, many businesses – especially brand new small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) – may well be looking at the whole concept of online marketing for the first time. Although they may already have an online presence such as a website or a profile on a social network such as Facebook, this is far short of the massive potential for new business and increased profits that the world of internet marketing can offer.
What do you think, have they got it right? or is there something missing?

Re: Marketing campaigns - How well do you plan beforehand?

I haven't read the whole post, but I can say that it's very important to put a lot of thaught and planning into your marketing campaigns. Every kind of business needs a specific campaign and strategies to back up the product or service. Without proper planning and campaign design most internet marketers are wasting a lot of time on the wrong things.

I agree. I am currently revising campaigns as well so that the new year starts with a huge bang, and keeps us on track for the rest of the year. I will probably alter the new plan a few times of the course of the year, but we will have a strong, well planned marketing plan to work from.

Re: Marketing campaigns - How well do you plan beforehand?

I have read the entire post and I must say that the items number one and four are basically the same. What's missing, though, is the need to do some market research in order to know the target market. This is important because you can’t simply sell to everyone and expect that plan to be successful. Market research will help you get an idea of your ideal prospective customers.

Definitely ! Market research is one of the most important building blocks of a successful business in any form. In fact, I'd recommend t be "part of your market", meaning participate in it as a "prospect" and get a feel of whats going on in that market.

Then build trust and credibility...be en icon in your targeted market (well sort of...).

Re: Marketing campaigns - How well do you plan beforehand?

So it would be easier to market a product if you are already respected, then when you're just starting out in your marketing ventures. Might be a little self vindication, but I am glad that I have always tried to focus on web rep. It really is important when it comes to business and marketing especially.

Of course. Would you buy from someone you've never heard of or the alternative from someone who has built a name ?
Those who already have success can show for it, social proof, statistics and such. that's why the successful marketers have such a huge client base and mailing list. The more known you are in a market, the more exposure you get.

We've talked about the rep building before and you can be glad you started off with that.
Too many take the wrong approach to it...

That's for sure. Many just go online and barrel straight into trying to make money. Everyone has an online reputation. Even those that use shady marketing techniques. To some they are the man, to some they are a pest. I guess its just the way you look at it and how you feel you want to be known that makes the difference.

From my experience and many other marketers' I know, ethical marketing is the way to go if you want to last for the long run. Shady and Blackhat stuff might work, but mostly temporarily.

Ethical marketing will make your customers stay and prospects want to become customers.

Oh yeah. That is the golden rule, if you follow the right path, customers will stay, become loyal to you even, but that is a long hard path that means a lot of work, a lot of client interaction, and honesty. lol. Its one of the biggest points that are missed. I think that you need to allow for time with things like this. Not just sit there and figure out, ok, this week the site, backlinks, and then money. Its more like the site, backlinks and interaction, customer satisfaction, money. (If that makes sense)
