What is referred to as "internet marketing" mostly causes many misconceptions for most starting online entrepreneurs.

Internet marketing is not only creating backlinks through articles, comments and forums. Actually that's all just a small part of the total picture. Internet marketing is about building a reputation and authority in your field. Authority status is one of the most important aspects for success online, so a lot of time and effort should be spent on this.

Of course there are several very powerful strategies to achieve this, but that would be too much to cover right now. Just know that "internet marketing" only does not cover everything if you want to come anywhere near successful online. Too many put all their time into internet marketing and haven't made a single dollar. A successful business needs to be planned...you have to know WHAT you want to become in your market and what steps to take next to get noticed and to present your business.

A business online is not be taken too lightly.
It's not as easy anymore as most will tell you.

I've been waiting for a long time for someone to say that. Just about everyone that works on SEO calls themselves an IM. That could not be farther from the truth. SEO is like a tiny spec of dust in the corner of the room that is IM. (well IMHO anyhow), where both are equally important and can have massive impacts on your reputation online, IM is the more important of the two, and probably the most complicated.

If your sales pitch is just to flood visitors to your site and bully them into buying something, or trying to get someone's money from them in any way you can, you need to get back to the drawing board.

When someone needs a bit of polishing to make them look good, they call in image consultants that "rebuild" them from the ground up and make the into the "perfect person". IM's take a business or product, and make it perfect, giving it a good reputation, making business owners respected, and showing potential clients that they really are dealing with the best company online.

They're image consultants for business.

Indeed, SEO may work well as a marketing technique but there's more to Internet marketing than that. Internet marketing covers all the things that you do (banner advertising, social media, article marketing, etc.) to attract customers through your business website or blog.
