Do you use your brand name in your SEO research?

Long passed the days when we had to wonder why we should care about search results for our (brand) names. Google reputation management is a well-known phrase to anyone making a living online. Hence, you are most likely to know that in order to maintain stable presence in branded search results, one should be working continuously.
Marketing pilgrim believes that this is important and goes on to give a few really good examples of what you can do when you write content etc. What do you think?

Re: Do you use your brand name in your SEO research?

    I partly agree.

Building a brand takes time and if you don't get enough exposure your brand name won't mean anything. To get more exposure you have to participate in your market all the time (forums, blogs, etc.), which is very hard work. To get even more out of it you'll most likely have to use paid advertising to get to your targeted prospects, which is difficult for starting internet marketers, as they don't really have a budget to do so.

In the beginning finding the right contacts in your market and a bit of luck would take you a bit closer to the point where you can at least conquer part of your market or niche. As soon as you can reserve some budget for paid traffic you can really boost your business and grow faster.

I agree. One thing that strikes me as odd, is when there is a really popular business online, but you cannot find an actual person online talking to people online, and getting to know clients and prospective ones. Companies like that strike me as antisocial, and makes me think really hard before choosing their products. There's advertising, but you need that human touch to soften the fact that someone is buying a product from you and they have never met you or seen your physical business.

I believe that all depends on the type of product. For downloadable information products it's always better to build a relationship with your prospects and customers...that personal touch that makes them stay. With electronic products there's no need to build a similar relationship, because the product is what it is and does what it's supposed to do. There's a difference between the products being sold or promoted by internet marketers as such and the "usual" products in online shops or bigger companies expanding their businesses online.
