Thread: Too much effort into the wrong approach

What I see around me all the time is online entrepreneurs wasting most of their time on SEO the wrong way. Of course backlinks are important for your site to get indexed and ranked, but the first thing to do is optimize your website's pages, using your keywords properly and effectively.

Important elements:
- Site title should contain your main keyword at least once
- Meta Description should contain you main keyword AND relevant keywords
- Your first few and last heading (<h1>,<h2>, etc) should contain your main keyword
- First and last sentences of the first 3 paragraphs should contain your main keyword and/or relevant keyword

What I've noticed is, that writing your pages and posts theme based, using anchor text links to other pages on your website, will increase ranking dramatically. Relevancy is key.

Many are creating backlinks all over the place, but don't realize that 10 .edu and/or ..gov backlinks are worth more than 100 regular backlinks (depending on pagerank of course). Once you've submitted your site to several directories and you did some facebook and twitter posting, it's time do create 2 to 5 .edu or .gov backlinks.

I'm not wasting a lot of time on these SEO efforts anymore, as there are many who know how to do this right and fast for cheap prices. A very good resource to find SEO services (I use .EDU and .GOV gigs a lot) on fiverr.com.

Use your time wisely. In the time others are creating valuable backlinks for you, you can focus on the important stuff of your online business.
